This world-class tango trio including Latin Grammy Award-winning Raul Jaurena on bandoneon, performing original tangos by Roger Davidson and new spins on classic tangos.  Led by Davidson on piano, the critically acclaimed pair are joined by renowned bassist Pablo Aslan. They trio is complemented by tango dancers Carolina Jaurena & Orlando Reyes performing part of the program.

Roger Davidson

A flexible and diverse pianist and composer, Roger Davidson has a long history of playing both European Classical music and straight-ahead Jazz as well as various styles of Latin music. A specialist in improvisation, he has a life-long love of the music of Argentina and Brazil.  He has completed several tango albums including “Pasion por la Vida” & “Amor por el Tango” (both for Soundbrush Records) and “Mango Tango’ (Rainbow Collection). He has performed in prestigious concert halls and venues around the world including Carnegie Hall and The International Tango Festival in Buenos Aires.  His critically acclaimed Brazilian jazz recordings include – Brazilian Jazz: “Bom Dia”, “Rogers in Rio” and the forthcoming “Brazilian Love Song”. He has also written and recorded several albums of orchestral music including “Missa Universalis” featuring soloist Richard Stoltzman and “Mandala” with the London Symphony Orchestra under the director of Kirk Trevor .

Raul Jaurena

Latin Grammy Award- winner, Raul Jaurena, is master of the Tango and among today’s most prominent bandoneon players. His music plays a very personal tribute to the influences of his native Uruguay and his adopted hometown of New York. It combines the traditional roots of the tango and the style of the “Tango Nuevo” influenced by Astor Piazzolla.  He has played regularly with Paquito D’Rivera, Yo Yo Ma, Giora Feidman, Pablo Aslan (NYTango Trio) & Tango Five. As a soloist he plays with prominent ensembles and orchestras throughout Europe, including Pan American Symphony Orquesta Opera, Sudwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz, and Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival (Finland) Israel and throughout Germany and France. He has also been a featured guest at Tango Music Symposium in Hannover, Halle Kassel, Hamburg, Lubeck, Munter, Lingen, Landshut, Muhigorf, Heidelberg, Bonn, Kiel, Celle, Wurzburg, and Bremen. His own tango shows have been performed around the world, including the Ravinia Festival, Buenos Aires and Thalia Spanish Theater in NY.

Pablo Aslan

Argentine born bassist and producer Pablo Aslan directs Avantango, a tango-jazz ensemble featuring New York based Argentine musicians and dancers that performs throughout the United States. His forthcoming CD, “Tango Grill” (Zoho Music) will debut in March following its premiere at Jazz @ Lincoln Center with Paquito D’Rivera.  His CD “Avantango” (Zoho Music) was selected as one of the Best Albums of the Year, Critics Choice 2004 by JAZZIZ magazine. He performers and records regularly with Fernand Otero (Nonesuch recording artist), Raul Jaurena, Roger Davidson, Adrian Iaies and other major tango artists around the world.
